For the record, Star Citizen first appeared on Kickstarter in 2012, as a spiritual successor to Chris Roberts’ beloved Wing Commander series. The game was originally slated for release in 2014, but nearly twelve years after it was first revealed, it’s still in beta and there’s no telling when we’ll see its final version. This has caused tension in the community on several occasions, with many questioning whether or not the game will actually be released.
At this point, it is worth noting that Star Citizen is officially the second most successful crowdfunding project of all time, not just in terms of games, but in general, with $700 million in funding. Only the EOS blockchain has managed to surpass this number, having raised $4 billion from its community.
