The State Department affirmed the strong ties that bind the United States to Greece, noting that Washington-Athens defense cooperation is at a historically high level and makes the wider region safer, with regard to the imminent sale of F-35 fighter jets to our country.
During a regular briefing of diplomats, a US State Department spokesman reiterated a long-standing position that the US government does not want to comment on defense equipment sales before an official announcement from Congress.

However, later responding to a question from the Hellas Journal website, a State Department representative said, as he did a few days earlier, that “the United States considers Greece an indispensable ally and partner in NATO. Together, our nations will advance our common goals of peace and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Western Balkans, the Black Sea region and beyond.” The US-Greece security relationship is stronger than ever.
