Accuracy: According to the amendment voted in Parliament, companies that supply retail trade are obliged as of March 1 to reduce the initial price by at least 30%
This procedure concerns six product categories where the largest offers are registered (40%, 50% or “1+1 gift”) and is applied almost throughout the year under the promotion system. These are detergents, household cleaners, toothpastes, shampoos, shower gels and diapers. Under the amendment voted in Parliament, companies that supply retail trade are obliged as of March 1 to reduce the initial price by at least 30%, that is, the price before discounts, credits or other benefits granted last year, taking into account taking into account the Consider initial price on December 31, 2023.
How will prices be formed?
In order to facilitate understanding of the “category” application of no less than 30% on the original prices of the offered products, it is taken into account that in shampoo sold within the “1+1 Gift” promotion system at a price of 7 euros, the 3.5 euro discount offered by the supplier will be reduced by 30%. , that is, about 1.1 euros. The original price of the two packages will thus automatically drop to 5.9 euros, which means that the consumer will buy the item for 2.95 euros from the 3.5 euros he gets now, provided that the supplier continues to provide it of course. Under the same payment system.
- In toothpaste Which is available at a 50% discount at a price of 2.51 euros from 5.02 euros, and with the new system the original price should be reduced to 3.51 euros. If a 30% discount is applied to the new reduced price, consumers will buy it a little cheaper than now at €2.45, while if the discount percentage is lower, they will pay more for it.
- In liquid laundry detergent (22 scoops) original price 11.33 euros is available with a 50% discount to 5.67 euros, based on the new measure suppliers will have to reduce its price to 7.93 euros. For families to be able to purchase it at today's levels, an additional 30% discount would have to be made on the reduced price, bringing the price down to €5.55.
- In surface disinfectant (500 ml) which had an original price of €4.57 and at a 45% discount is on the shelves for €2.51, as of March 1, the original price should be set at €3.2. Suppliers can then sell it at a 20% discount to the same current price (€2.56), while with a higher bid it will be sold at a cheaper price than it is now.
appreciation
It appears that for items on sale, for which a mandatory reduction of 30% of the original price will apply, in order for households to enjoy the same prices and benefits, companies will have to continue to offer discounts of between 20% and 30%, which remains to be seen in practice.
However, according to representatives of the regulated food retail trade, “the most effective measure to ensure accuracy appears to be a 3-month ban on promotions in case suppliers raise prices.”
