After stirring up nausea, Honda finally revealed 2023 Honda Civic Type R. we will, especially Uncover it, anyway. We still don’t know how much horsepower it has or what has been done to its chassis, other than those bits that have been “optimized”. What we do know is that Honda’s latest hottest hatchback is said to be more powerful than it’s ever been. He also looks more mature, which was easy to explain because his predecessor looked like something out of a Japanese anime series Gundam Suite.
s-Aya and s– perverted appearance
It’s no secret that the outgoing Civic Type R had a love or hate design. For better or worse, the new CTR doesn’t lead to such strong reactions. However, we think it looks great, with only a few vital additions that don’t spoil the otherwise restrained design. Sure, there are still some fake vents for the vanity, but the vents behind the front wheels are now real. The rear wing remains a standout feature, but it’s no longer a racing caricature.
Like the previous version, the new Civic Type R has some unique bodywork. It’s still only offered as a hatchback—by tradition—and it has flared fenders that distinguish it from lesser Civics. Honda also offers wider rear doors that you won’t find in a regular hatch. The side sills are another unique touch, and at the back is a black diffuser with three-pin Type R branding, the center outlet exhaust.
sBack side wall
It’s easy to overlook Civic’s new R-rated set of tires and wheels, but it’s very important. The last one rode on 20-inch rims with 245/30 summer rubber with thinner sidewalls. Fortunately a smaller set of lightweight 19″ reels with thicker sidewalls are now standard. Don’t worry, Honda only reduces the wheel diameter. The CTR’s contact patch is now noticeably wider thanks to its new 265/30 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tyres.
The big news with the all-new Civic Type R is usually the performance specs. Unfortunately, it’s being kept under lock and key until Honda reveals it near the car’s release this fall. Fortunately, we have some hard facts about what’s under the hood that hold us back. Its power to be selected comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Once again, the engine partner in lap times is a six-speed manual transmission with rev matching.
Honda says it will be “the most powerful Type R ever.” The American version previously had 306 horsepower; Those in Europe and Japan markets have 316 horsepower. Is it safe to say that the 2023 Civic Type R will have at least 317? The way Honda phrased it makes us think it might be, but corporate marketing is a fickle friend, so we’ll just have to wait and see. This also applies to the suspension and steering system. It has been improved somehow. That’s all we know now.
scarpet treatment
Inside, the R-type front seats come in any color you want as long as it’s bright red. We had the opportunity to sit in these new buckets and can report that they are very comfortable. The US-spec model will also feature a red carpet for the first time, a treatment previously only seen in other markets. As of now, we’re not sure if Honda will offer a black carpet or not.
The rest of the hot hatch interior is what you’ll find in the regular upper trim of a Civic hatchback. This means a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control and a fully digital gauge cluster. In the Type R, the latter displays a design unique to the +R engine model. It includes shift lights, gear position, and a racing-inspired graphic of the tachometer.
Honda hasn’t said how much the 2023 Civic Type R will cost, but it’s expected to surpass the price of the 2021 model, which started at $38,910.
