Dimitris Christofidilis analyzes the facts that apply to Olympiacos ahead of the new season. The 47 active contracts – which exceeds 55 if the K19 contracts are added – are the effort to keep Fortunis, Masoura and loan players on track.
Other than that, Olympiacos starts and ends the season differently every year in terms of the changes made in their lineup. One only has to look at the past three years to find out. The “red and whites” will have changes this summer as well, as the club management and Jose Luis Mendelibre, after winning the conference league, want to strengthen the Piraeus team even more.
But first, let’s see how the Olympiacos roster currently stands and what the intentions are. First of all, the contracts of eight footballers, Kenny, Iborra, Camara, Fortuny, Masoura, Carvalho, Jovetic and El Arabi, are about to expire.
The ‘red and whites’ also want to keep Fortunis (his condition is on the right track), Masura and Jovic, and have also held a conversation with Iborra, who is nonetheless eyeing Levante. On the other hand, Kenny, Camara, Carvalho and El Arabi leave. The latter is very likely to continue his career at APOEL.
Meanwhile, Olympiacos have seven other players playing on loan, namely Carmo, Richards, Horta, Alexandropoulos, Cabral, Pontense and Navarro. Among them, Cabral (Sporting Lisbon) and Navarro (Porto) will return to the teams to which they belong, while there will be discussions for all others.
At the same time, the “red-whites” gave eight footballers on loan, to whom Mindliber will decide who will return to stay and who will have to be given back. They are Bale, Pepe, Agyibo Kamara, Brossai, Holsgrove, Andruzzo, Ba and Lovera. Let’s also remember that Ramon is on loan at Cuimba until December 2024 and Kalogeropoulos is on loan at Volos until June 2025. In addition, Costinha was acquired from Rio Ave, who will join the red and white list in July.
Beyond that, the players who have contracts from the current squad ahead of the new season are Paschalakis (who recently renewed his partnership with the Piraeus club), Rodini (Costinha will also be added), Doi, Bianconi, Ritsos, Veso, Abi, Ortega, Essie, Cecchinho. , Martinez and Al Kaabi. They are joined by Papadoudis, Perinic and Alkassim Ba, who are considered members of the first team.
Also, the players who played in Olympiacos II are under contract and some of them played in the first team or others are set to move up, such as Botis, Apostolopoulos, Leidner, Argyrio, Keramidas, Pagalianis, Koutsidis, Tanoulis, Kostas Kostoulas, Mozakitis, Vatigas, Liatsos, Sapountzis, Mavrodis, Segoros, Papakanellos, Kitas, Pinakas, Flaumetros, and Charalambous Costolas.
The above mentioned footballers do not include U19 players who also have professional contracts. Players who celebrated winning the UEFA Youth Champions League, such as Senna, Prekatis, Liatskouras, Bakolas, Koutsougoulas, Darviras, Alavakis, Pneumonidis and Christou.
Therefore, Olympiacos has 46 active contracts in the first and second teams and exceeds 55 if the club’s K19 contracts are also added. And all of this is without taking into account the additions that will be made to the menu during the summer. Of course, a lot will depend on the renewal of contracts, the activation of the purchase option, and the number of loanees who will remain in the Piraeus squad.
