(Updates with Florida Governor’s comments on Supreme Court draft leak)
MIAMI, May 3 (EFE) .- Florida Gov. Democratic nominee Nicki Fried on Tuesday confirmed that the withdrawal of a ruling defending the right to abortion in the United States is “a turning point” in the country. He urged Democrats and Americans to “raise their voices” to defend it.
Fried spoke at an event outside the so-called Freedom Tower in Miami, in response to a leak of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning the 1973 famous “Row vs. Wade” ruling. Vote in favor of at least 5 of the 9 judges.
The Supreme Court confirmed that the draft was true.
“This is America (America), we need to hear our voices,” Fried told fifty or more people gathered under the tower, mostly women.
Demonstrators carried placards with legends such as “You can not prevent abortion”, “Guns have more rights than women” or “Restrict my body” (the external barriers of my body).
Fried, who currently serves as Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture (Minister), and is the sole Democrat in the state government, attacked Governor Ron Desantis of the Republican Party and said he certainly “celebrates” that decision. The Supreme Court can get the votes of conservative judges.
Desandis, who is seeking a new mandate in the November election, recalled that he was a promoter of one of the “most restrictive laws” in the entire country regarding the right of a woman to determine her pregnancy.
That law, which was approved a month ago, limits the legal period for abortion to 24 to 15 weeks in Florida and does not provide exceptions in the case of rape or sexual assault.
For his part, the Florida governor told a news conference on Fort Myers Beach today that the leak of the draft sentence was “truly unprecedented” and reflected a “real and significant violation”.
“I think it’s intentional to try to make this more political, and to intimidate one of them (the judges) and try to change their position (…),” Desandis said, calling for an inquiry into the incident. WKM TV channel for reporting.
For more than 50 years, Fried stressed that women in the United States can make decisions about their reproductive health and their inalienable rights, and that they would like to have women like their own grandmother who have to go to Cuba. Abortion because it is illegal in the United States.
“We need to have our voices heard, we need to be united, so our voices need to be heard and the women in need need to be protected,” said Fried, who is running in the primary with other Democratic candidates for governor of Florida.
The event was attended by representatives of the Plant Parenthood organization, a family planning organization that provides abortion services.
Among those celebrating the prospect of a reversal of the “Roe vs. Wade” verdict was Abraham Enríquez, leader of the Latin conservative group Bienvenido US, who accused the “extreme left” of trying to “disrupt” the judiciary by leaking. Of the draft judgment.
The verdict “allowed the killing of millions of unborn children, many of whom were of Hispanic descent” and “never had a constitutional and very low moral basis,” he said.
“The court is right to overturn that decision and withdraw this debate to the democratic process. As the far left proposes, the majority of Hispanics oppose allowing abortion. The dignity of human life, the integrity of our justice system and the rule of law,” he added. EFE
