New scams have been carried out by clever people who ally themselves with card payments via points of sale, avoiding paying at gas stations.
Particularly creative and highly skilled in patents are clever people who, under the guise of electronic payments via points of sale, have set up a scam to deceive gas stations. This time, the raids targeted gas stations during peak hours.
The trick is particularly simple in terms of its organization but also effective. Everything depends on finding the right gas station that is called during peak hours to serve many customers at the same time. After the smart guys were sure of the gas station and when they would visit it, they put their plan into action. After they fill up, when it’s time to pay, they say they’ll pay by card.
Indescribable versatility
So, as has become known to those affected by such practices, the smart people concerned have pre-recorded on their smartphones the distinctive “beep” sound that the POS device makes when accepting a transaction. They activate it on the mobile phone at the time of the transaction without, of course, the money transfer being completed successfully. During rush hour at gas stations, employees run to serve several customers at the same time, so they do not sit down to check whether the transaction has already been completed and listen to the audio confirmation that the “beep” has been heard. And of course, because smart people have thought of everything, they always make sure that the amount is less than 50 euros so that they do not have to put a PIN at the point of sale and all their effort goes to waste.
So be vigilant because smart people are lurking everywhere.
