The deadline for the final decision on the new coach is approaching

The Olympiacos playing tasks have not ended, but the red and whites are moving on a double board, with the deadline for the final decision on the new coach approaching.

It is reasonable and expected that the players and coaching staff of Olympiacos will now focus on the match against Panathinaikos at Georgios Karaiskakis on Sunday (7/5, 20:00, COSMOTE SPORT 2HD, live on SPORT24). It’s the “eternals” derby with all that suggests, and the Reds and Whites are chasing victory for reasons of prestige, but also for going with a good mentality into the match against PAOK in Toumba.

At the same time, the Olympiacos administration has focused its attention on two fronts: the first is related to the Panathinaikos match, and the second is related to the appointment of a foreign coach. Regarding the second, Piraeus PAE continues its contacts in the midst of competitive commitments as it wants to reach an agreement with the coach who will take over the technical leadership, hopefully, within the next two weeks.

The red and whites held meetings with some free managers (Dutch Alfred Schroeder and Italian Gennaro Gattuso among them) while also waiting for answers from some others who are currently working in teams and whose contracts expire at the end of the month (Hernan Crespo, Sergi Rembrov) or in a few months (Diego Martinez).

At the same time, Olympiacos was looking for other good and tough cases (among them, Marcelo Gagliardo) and names like Bruno Laze, Quique Flores, Ralph Hasenhoutl, Jesse Marsh and Cesar Peixoto were also considered.

Information from abroad wants Javi Gracia, who left Leeds in the last twenty-four hours, to also join the squad.

As far as Schroeder is concerned, reports in Belgium and the Netherlands keep him very busy with Bruges and the island, while in Portugal they report that Laz is a candidate for the Sporting seat, should Ruben Amorim eventually leave.

For Olympiacos, what matters is making the best possible choice and it won’t be long before the red and whites make their final decision.
