Colonel Leandro Montero, secretary of state for civil defense and commander of the fire department, explained that due to the unpredictable weather in Petropolis, heavy machinery such as tractors could not progress anywhere.
The death toll from the rains in Bahia, Minas Gerais, Sவ்o Paulo and Rio de Janeiro now stands at 254, according to the Civil Defense.
