That cost puts Dell’s offering at a much greater advantage than Apple’s $4,999 Pro Display XDR, which is also aimed at professionals with similar dimensions and resolution. But the Dell monitor has a host of other features, including a built-in webcam, speakers, and a KVM switch that lets it work with two computers at once. The disclosure of the price of this particular model from Dell comes in addition to the launch of the company’s 38-inch ultra-wide curved monitor.
Obviously, the technical specifications of Dell and Apple monitors are not identical. More specifically, the Dell monitor is DisplayHDR 600 certified, which indicates peak brightness in the region of 600 nits versus 1,600 nits for the Apple monitor. Also, there’s no mention of full-array local dimming technology in Dell’s case, only mention of LG Display’s IPS Black panel.
But Dell has packed its new monitor (model U3224KB) with plenty of features in an effort to make it a more productive offering. So we see a built-in 4K HDR webcam, two 14W speakers, echo-cancellation microphones, plenty of USB-C and USB-A ports, and a Thunderbolt 4 connector that can deliver up to 140W of power to a connected laptop. There is also the ability to connect two computers and control them with one mouse and one keyboard thanks to the built-in KVM, while content from both systems can be viewed simultaneously.
In contrast to the company’s other proposals, the screen bezel is large while the refresh rate is only 60Hz.
Meanwhile, Dell announced the UltraSharp 38 Curved USB-C Hub Monitor (U3824DW), a 37.5-inch monitor with a 3840 x 1600 resolution. There’s no built-in webcam on this model, but it still offers a built-in KVM for controlling two computers. and charge up to 90 watts for a connected laptop. It will be available for purchase on June 22 initially in the US for $1,529.99.
