The cause of Sinead O’Connor’s death has been revealed, exactly a year after the beloved Irish singer was found dead in her London flat.
Sinead O’Connor died from a combination of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, the Irish Independent reported.
The report said the 56-year-old singer was also suffering from a respiratory infection at the time of her death.
What did Sinead O’Connor die from?
The legendary “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer’s death certificate states that she died of “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma coupled with a low-grade lower respiratory tract infection.”
The Metropolitan Police were called to O’Connor’s flat in south-east London on 26 July 2023 after reports of an unconscious woman at the scene.
After being identified as O’Connor, police quickly issued a statement saying her death was not being treated as suspicious. O’Connor had three children, Jake, Roseanne and Jeshua. Another son, Shane, committed suicide in 2022 at the age of 17.
In her latest heartbreaking post on X, the Dublin-born singer described Sheen as “the only person who loved me unconditionally”.
O’Connor was known for her distinctive voice, as well as her short haircut and political views.
She caused a backlash for her infamous appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1992, where she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II on live television.
