The first official visit of the President of Mexico to Cuba begins

After receiving the Jose Marti order, Lopez Obrador said, “It’s a special thing that honors me.

“I express my love for the deserving people of Cuba, and that is what comes from my heart,” he said.

Moreover, the Mexican President recalled the historic relations between the two countries and the support of the Mexican people for the revolutionaries fighting against the Batista dictatorship.

In another moment with reporters, He also expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims of the crash at the Saratoga Hotel in Havana.

Similarly, he highlighted Fidel Castro’s legacy for humanity and recalled his words when he learned of the death of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution: “A giant is dead.”

He reiterated his rejection of the US economic, trade and financial embargo against Cuba. “This is a time for brotherhood, not a time for conflict. Conflict must be avoided,” he said, adding that it was time for a new coexistence between all nations of the United States.

Lopez Obrador called on the United States to negotiate with the rulers and convince them that a relationship between the United States and Latin America was possible.

“Even if it seems like a dream, one can go nowhere without the boundaries of ideals,” he said.

He further added that the United States would continue to advocate for the lifting of the embargo on Cuba. “That’s why I urge President Biden not to exclude any country from the upcoming US summit.”

“Thanks to the generous, supportive and exemplary people of Cuba. I never bet on the failure of the Cuban revolution. I want to keep the hope that the revolution will be renewed following the example of the martyrs who fought for freedom, equality, justice and sovereignty. I firmly believe that things are being done in Cuba with that in mind, “AMLO said.

Underlining the friendship between Mexico and Cuba after the intervention of Lopez Obrador, Diaz-Canel stressed that hemispheric relations must change. The Cuban President thanked his Prime Minister for his visit: “Our people accept him with the utmost love and respect.”
