The hourglass is emptying – Bartzukas' decision is a matter of time

Olympiacos continues its preparations for the quarter-finals of the Greek Cup, which will be held over the next four days from February 15 to 18 at “Dio Orakia” in the city of Heraklion on the island of Crete.

Giorgos Barzoukas faces a particularly important decision, before a tournament that could change the balance of the entire season for Greek doubles. If Olympiacos lifts the trophy in Crete, it is clear that everything will change for the better. The Greek coach knows very well how important it is for his team to leave Orakis with the cup in its hands on Sunday.

The way the Olympiacos roster is structured, Barzoukas will have to select 6+1 foreign players for the cup matches, which of course also applies to the Basketball League. At the moment, Olympiacos' roster includes 10 foreigners (besides the injured Milutinov) and he will have to drop 4 of them and make one available and announce it if he wants to make a change.

The “equation” is very difficult for Brzuka, both competitively and in terms of balance, because for better or worse, three plus Milutinov will have to be eliminated.

Olympiacos' foreign 7 at the moment is as follows: Williams-Goss, Kanaan, Brazdeikis, Wright, Petrusev, Peters, Vale. The only dilemma is: Brazdeikis stay or Makisic enter in the seventh? This question must be answered by Bartzukas himself. And very soon indeed, because time is running out. If the experienced technician wants to make a change to the foreign team, he has until noon on Thursday (15/2) to do so.

It is also important to note that if Bartzukas makes a change, there will only be one change left until the end of this season. Which would make sense for Nikola Milutinov to return to the roster (it is not known who will replace him). If the change is not made now, Olympiacos will have two foreign players available until the end of the 2023-24 season.
