The mayor of Lamia, Thimios Karaikos, was the victim of a murderous attack – as he claims – shortly before 1:00 a.m. as he was returning home from a television show.
Unidentified persons lurking at the ring road junction in front of the mayor’s house, first broke the passenger window and then the car window and assaulted him.
The shaken mayor of Lamia was taken to Lamia Hospital as a precaution.
At the hospital and at the scene of the attack, dozens of councilors and citizens of Lamia condemned the incident.
Some time ago, during the “Step for All” program on Central Greece’s Star TV, Mayor Timios Karaikos complained that his life and the life of his family had been threatened for a year. Refusal to yield to pressure from Panourgias Papaioannou to undertake the project of the Lamia territory.
Mr. Karaikos specifically stated:
“The reason for the conflict with Mr. Papayaoano is that he called me in June 2022 and asked me that there is no competitive process on the issue of allocation of the cell project and that we should not use legality, but that we can go. With a limited call and negotiation, I refused. When he met me in my office, He responded to my refusal: “I will run for mayor,” Mr. Garaikos said.
“Since he announced his candidacy, my family and I have been going through a drama, threats, insults, no doubt a petition filed with the attorney. It’s not a good thing for the mayor to see thugs hanging around the house.
I have received phone calls with threats to my life, but through a third party Mr. I have received threats from Papaioanu. I reported all this to the lawyer with a complaint statement at a time when there was no doubt. I have gone to the lawyer three times and reported the specific incidents. The prosecutor’s office has already conducted a preliminary investigation”.
