the The spiral arms of spiral galaxy M51 It stretches impressively in this image from the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. Spiral galaxies have prominent, well-developed spiral arms like the one shown in this image. The image was captured by the James Webb Space Telescope's mid-infrared (MIRI) instrument and released last August.
In this image, starlight reprocessed from dust grains and particles at the galaxy's center is very bright. Empty cavities and bright spots alternate and give the impression of ripples spreading from the spiral arms, NASA said. Yellow solid areas indicate newly formed star clusters in the galaxy.
the M51 – also known as NGC 5194 – is about 27 million years old Light from Earth in the constellation Canes Venatici is detected in a turbulent conjunction with its neighbor, the dwarf galaxy NGC 5195. The interaction between these two galaxies makes them one of the best-studied pairs of galaxies in the night sky.
