The prevailing theory states that 66 million years ago, a giant asteroid collided with the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, and the knock-on effects of the massive impact caused the extinction of 80% of life on the planet.
The most significant loss to the evolution of life on Earth was the extinction of the dinosaurs, which allowed the mammals that had managed to survive the conflict to emerge from the lairs they had inhabited for millions of years, to flourish and dominate the world, paving the way for the emergence of man.
with Publishing In the journal Science, the research group presents its study of this asteroid after reaching two interesting results. The first discovery is that the space rock was largely composed of carbon. The second discovery is that this asteroid formed far beyond the orbit of Jupiter in a remote region of our solar system.
If both results are confirmed, they will provide new evidence, among other things, about the composition and movements of space rocks in the solar system, as well as about those whose journeys ended in falling to Earth.
