The new Smart Band 8 Pro picks up where last year’s Smart Band 7 Pro left off, so while the basic design elements are retained, the metal case, 5ATM water resistance certification and quick-release straps, the new model has a slightly larger OLED screen (1.74-inch vs. 1.64-inch). ). To take advantage of the large screen, Xiaomi has introduced some new features of the fitness tracker such as an improved user interface, a variety of tools (such as payments, media playback, etc.), new skins and wallpapers.
The Smart Band 8 Pro also has a larger battery (289 mAh vs 235 mAh) with Xiaomi claiming battery life can go up to two weeks or even six days with Always On Display enabled. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper fitness tracker if it didn’t have health and fitness tracking features. Thus, it has GPS, more than 150 functions for various sports, training and sports activities, the ability to display a replay of your activity on the map (eg running), warm-up and stretching instructions and much more. It also has sensors to monitor heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (oximeter, SpO2), sleep and stress, and it integrates NFC and Bluetooth for smartphone connectivity.
The Smart Band 8 Pro is already available in China for CNY 399 (~$55) while the leather strap model costs JPY 449 (~$62). Logically, it will also be released in markets outside of China, although we’ll have to wait until the IFA in early September in Germany to find out more about Xiaomi’s exact plans.
