Today, Tuesday, the United Arab Emirates summoned the Israeli ambassador, Amir Hayek, to protest the attacks and incursions in Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque for the first time since the normalization of relations between the two countries and the exchange of ambassadors in 2020.
Tensions prevail in Jerusalem, where settlers have stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque since Friday, in parallel with the Easter holiday.
The UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al-Hashemi, summoned Hayek and informed him of its condemnation of the current events in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Hashemi reminded the Israeli ambassador that the attacks in Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque against civilians and incursions into holy places left many wounded.
Emphasizing the need for an immediate cessation of these practices and the protection of believers in full, calling on the Israeli authorities to respect the right of Palestinians to practice their religious rites.
The minister stressed the need to respect the role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which is historically responsible for protecting holy sites and endowments in accordance with international law, stressing the need to create an appropriate environment that would allow a return to negotiations with serious steps. Which leads to achieving a just and comprehensive peace and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
And since April 2014, negotiations between the Israeli and Palestinian sides have stopped, due to Tel Aviv’s refusal to stop settlements and release former detainees, as well as its rejection of the two-state solution.
