There are some things you should never say in conversations with an AI chatbot. Cyber experts have warned of the dangers of handing over information to chatbots, even if they appear harmless.
Chatbots like ChatGPT from OpenAI and Gemini from Google are designed to make your life easier. They can answer complex questions and even perform tasks in a “scary” human way.
So, it may be tempting from time to time to reveal things about yourself, including your name, but experts say this should be avoided at all costs.
Things you should never say to an AI chatbot
“Do not send personal data to the chatbot”, warns Kaspersky's Stan Kaminsky. “You should not enter passwords, passport or bank card numbers, addresses, phone numbers, names or other personal data of yourself, your company or your customers into conversations with artificial intelligence. Complete.
“You can replace them with asterisks or 'Redacted' in your order.” Kaminsky confirms.
This is because the information you send to the AI chatbot may not always remain private. The same ChatGPT saves dialogs that can then be reused To resolve technical issues or prevent service violations.
People can also review your conversations. They can also be used to train new versions of GPT – or other alternatives – in the future. There's a chance that something could go wrong and leak your conversations, or the chatbot might accidentally share your information with another user.
“Remember: anything you type into a chatbot can be used against you.”Kaminsky said.
Don't upload documents to AI chatbots
You should also avoid uploading documents to AI chatbots. Although it may help you do your job, it is a very bad idea.
“Do not upload any documents”Kaminsky advises.
“Many plugins and add-ons allow you to use chatbots to process documents. It can be very tempting to upload a worksheet to get a summary, for example. However, by carelessly uploading a multi-page document, you risk leaking confidential data or Intellectual property or trade secret, such as the launch date of a new product or the payroll of the entire team. He adds.
It is best to keep your conversations with chatbots as anonymous as possible.
