Turkey earthquake: Anger of Turkish citizens erupts in the country’s stadiums. “The government resigns,” fans chant in stadiums, and Turkish politicians run to collect… the uncollected.
“The government’s resignation” is the message that shakes the Turkish stadiums. At the weekend’s game, Turkish fans had a chance to vent their anger at the government over the devastation caused by two deadly earthquakes measuring 7.8 and 7.6 on the Richter scale.
Fans of both Besiktas and Fenerbahçe chanted anti-government and Recep Tayyip Erdogan slogans, while throwing teddy bears onto the pitch in honor of the children killed in the deadly earthquakes.
On Saturday, during the match against Konyaspor, Fenerbahçe fans raised a slogan that read: “Lie, deception, 20 years have passed, resign.”
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, despite the earthquakes and destruction they caused, refuses to postpone the elections that he announced on May 14. His popularity has steadily declined as Ankara tries to silence any criticism. A typical example is the Radio and Television Supreme Council, which imposed sanctions on three television channels that were critical of the government.
Bahceli resigned from Besiktas membership
The leader of the Nationalist Action Party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s partner Devlet Bakhjili, called the call for the government’s resignation irresponsible and absurd.
His party’s vice-president pointed out that this “disrespect for the witnesses of our earthquake and exploitation of the situation to create chaos is not commensurate with Besiktas’ national moral values,” announcing that the party’s chairman had resigned from his position. Besiktas member.
