Tyler Perry says he avoids talking about race with his 7-year-old son

Tyler Perry has revealed that he is not interested in having a “racing talk” with his 7-year-old son Aman just yet.

The director made the striking revelation in an interview with AARPwhere he opened up about paternity.

In an effort to protect his son from the harsh realities of the world, Perry said he’s delaying “the talk” with his son, who he shares with model Gelila Bekele, for as long as possible.

“I haven’t had a conversation with Aman because he’s only 7 years old, and I want to hold out for as long as possible,” Perry told the nonprofit.

“I don’t want to tell him that there are people who will judge him for the color of his skin, because now he’s in a school with every race, and all these kids in their purest form. When he describes his friends, he’s never defined them on race.”

“So, the moment he loses that innocence will be a very sad day for me.”

But Perry made it clear that he knew the conversation would happen any day now.

“I know it’s coming,” he said, “because it’s already asking some really tough questions.” “What I want it to be, more than anything, is someone who sees injustice, speaks up against it, and the influences change.”

Perry said another reason he wanted to protect his son from the world was because he was “not famous.”

“I want him to live as normal a life as he can. I want him to know what it means to have his name and his life and not be under the pressure of trying to live up to whoever or whoever your father is.”
