UN calls for crackdown on organized crime in Paraguay and Brazil

According to the Judiciales.net site, experts from that section of the World Organization will exchange views with representatives of the Ministry of Justice in the capital, improving the procedures for improving related work.

Experts agreed that in line with international standards, it involves strengthening regional cooperation against drug trafficking.

They pointed out that the administration in Paraguay in this regard is based on the cooperation between the institutions in the prison administration to combat this kind of organized crime in the prison system of this southern nation.

Rodrigo Nicora, director of the country’s penal criminal policy, said the process would require the creation of “recognition” forms of prison issues (classification of prisoners, management of high-risk prisoners and others).

The Brazilian experts, developed by their coordinator Ana Beckney and project expert Mariana Carrera, explained that in addition, prison officials and anti-drug trafficking agents would be instructed and trained.

UN experts have focused on the current context of clashes between organized crime groups in Brazil and the Paraguayan prison system and the controversy surrounding the so-called “three frontier” drug trafficking routes.

County drug gangs operate in the region bordering the regional borders of Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina to send drugs to other latitudes, especially to the United States and Europe.

The area includes the famous Iguazu Falls and the cities of Puerto Iguazu, Fos do Iguazu, President Franco and Ciudad del Este.
