Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement seized a cargo ship in the Red Sea on Sunday, taking 25 crew members hostage, in an apparent escalation against Israel amid the Gaza war.

The Houthis claimed that they seized the “Galaxy Leader” ship, which they described as an Israeli ship, saying that they would return it to Yemen.

A video posted on Monday showed armed fighters climbing onto the deck of the ship by helicopter and storming the bridge.

The group said that its forces “will deal with the ship’s crew in accordance with the teachings and values ​​of the Islamic religion.”

The Israeli army described the hijacking as a “serious incident” but denied that the Galaxy Leader ship was Israeli and said that there were no Israelis on board (more here).
