A boy from South Carolina had to go to the hospital and be treated United States of America, Because after drinking six bottles of water in an hour he developed a condition that could kill him.
The incident occurred on July 4th weekend when 10-year-old Ray Jordan was playing outside.
According to what his mother reported in the media, he “ran outside with his cousins and started playing. They were running around the house and jumping on trampolines.”
Ray went and fetched some water. “What we didn’t realize was how much it took,” he added, noting that he drank six bottles between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
By 10:30 p.m., the 10-year-old’s father, Jeff Jordan, said, “Ray couldn’t control his head or his hands or anything else.”
“He couldn’t even move,” he said.
One parent added, “He was like drugged, drunk, even mentally retarded.”
The parents took their son to the hospital.
Tests on the cats showed Ray had water poisoning, or a dangerous drop in sodium levels in the blood that occurs when the kidneys overwhelm the amount of water entering the body.
Then, as Ray’s mother reported, the doctors gave him a special fluid to urinate because he had started to swell around the brain.
Doctors also spent eight hours giving Ray sodium and potassium to regulate his blood.
Then as soon as he woke up and asked about food, he said: Where am I? What happened?” his mother recalls.
His parents added that Ray is doing well now, has made a full recovery and has no lingering symptoms.
However, not all victims of similar accidents are so lucky.
According to the New York Post, Ashley Summers, a 35-year-old mother of two from Indiana, died July 6 of developing brain swelling after drinking four bottles of water in 30 minutes, her brother said on social media last week.
“If you drink some energy drinks or drink water more slowly, you will be alive,” her brother wrote. “To all my friends, please do a little research on water toxicity. It could save someone’s life.”
