USA: The details of this case are horrific.
Revealing news that a 20-year-old woman had murdered an 18-month-old girl has sparked horror in the United States. As reports from the other side of the Atlantic indicate, Alicia Owens from Pennsylvania is accused of poisoning her boyfriend's 18-month-old daughter by feeding her batteries, nails and acetone.
“The defendant researched the harmful effects these items could have on a child prior to murder. The details of this case are horrific,” the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office said.
According to reports on June 25, the couple called an ambulance when they found the 18-year-old unconscious. The girl was taken to the hospital, where she died four days later. An autopsy showed that the child died from acetone poisoning, which caused organ failure.
After investigations, authorities determined that the 20-year-old woman searched on her cell phone for information on the Internet about household products that could seriously harm or kill a child. Investigators also said the child had been hospitalized months before his death after swallowing batteries and nails.
