Veteran soccer player, Thodoris Armilagos, has been arrested on charges of counterfeiting thousands of euros

His former teammate of the great Greek football athletes was wanted by the police, sentenced to 5 years in prison and is expected to appear before the competent public prosecutor’s office today.

In particular, the decision of the five-member Third Criminal Court of Appeal in Athens was pending against him as of July 13, 2021 for the offense of fraud committed both in the series of attempts and in collaboration with a benefit of more than €120,000.

The businessman, who started his career in Ano Glyfada’s Terpsithea at the age of 13, played in Ethniki Asteras, Aeolikos Mytilini and from there in Panileiakos, reaching A’Ethniki, with his partners lawyers, notaries and others, set up one of the biggest scams.

According to the authorities, they prepared bogus powers of attorney, advance agreements and bogus sale and purchase contracts and proceeded with fictitious buying and selling of very high value plots of land. In fact, in order to be able to complete their work, they made sure that the said plots of land belonged to the Greeks who lived abroad and in particular to people who “left” their lives. Their earnings exceed 350 thousand euros.

The gang tried the same thing in 2014

In 2014, the gang tried to withdraw €160,000 from a bank account held by two people who died. A few days later, they went to the same bank branch and received a check for 50,000 euros in the order of the deceased person.

After completing the deal, they are arrested. A check for €50,000 and a property purchase deed for €70,000 of questionable authenticity were found and confiscated in their possession and during the investigation.

The arrested persons were brought before the Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court of Athens, with the case brought against them, depending on the case, for establishing and participating in a criminal organization, for fraud and for direct collaboration in it, for forgery and forgery after being used as accomplice and as a follow-up and violation of the laws on protection of personal data and on the responsible declaration.
