Thanks to a penalty kick by Schaub in the 45th+2 minute, PAOK won 1-0 over Volos in their first match in the round of 16 of the Greek Betson Cup and advanced, albeit by a small margin, in the playoffs.
PAOK advanced in the mini-qualifiers. Dyfalos won 1-0 over Volos in their first match in the round of 16 of the Greek Betson Cup.
Stefan Schwab scored the goal that separated the two teams from a penalty kick in the 45+2 minute. PAOK had the upper hand in the first half, as the Thessaloniki team pressed hard in the second 45 minutes, but did not score. In fact, Moraitis’ 69th-minute goal was not counted either.
He will find the winner of the pair against Asteras or Panserraikos. Al-Saray won 2-0 in the first match in Tripoli. We remind you that the return matches will be on January 9/10/11.
the match
From the first minutes of the match, it was PAOK who wanted to have the initiative to move. In the eighth minute, the Thessaloniki team succeeded in scoring through Engin, but it was clearly exposed and the goal was not counted. Decfalos was holding the ball and trying to break through Volos’ defence.
In the 13th minute, Sastre missed a ball from outside the area, while Despodov shot a header a minute later that went wide of the goal. In the 23rd minute, Morg tried to threaten again with a final shot from outside the box, but it missed for some time. In the 39th minute, PAOK had another chance with a header from Morg.
PAOK had possession but had difficulty breaking down Volos’ defence. Finally, Decfalos found the goal in stoppage time of the first half. Despodov entered the penalty area after a beautiful ball from Constantilia. Kitsos brought him down and the referee flashed the white bullet. Schaub took control at the 45+2 minute and scored the goal, making the score 1-0.
In the second half, Volos entered in a more dynamic way, trying to threaten PAOK, with Dyfalos’ defense often reacting well.
For his part, PAOK was looking for his moments on the field, but was unable to create big chances. In the 71st minute, Volos scored through Moraitis, after Kitso’s turnover, but the goal was canceled by the referee.
Two minutes later, the Thessaloniki side threatened again, and had a great chance with another header from Moraitis, who had been suffering from a constant headache from the moment he entered the field.
Until the end of the match, PAOK played in some finals, mostly outside the region. In the 79th minute, Constantilias threatened from a distance to trip Kostic, while Morg also tried to shoot with his foot. There was no difference in the score until the final whistle and the double-headed side had the upper hand heading into the second leg in January.
