Water “was, is and will be a public good,” emphasized Harris Shahinis, CEO of EYDAP, speaking with Thodoris Panagoulis, Director of Energypress.gr, at the 8th Delphi Economic Forum to be held in Delphi 26-29 April and under the auspices of AE President of the Republic Ms. Katerina Sachilaropoulou. “As there will be no difference in EYDAP shares,” he commented.

He specifically indicated that the transfer of shares would take place by the end of the year as announced by the Prime Minister. Regarding the independent regulator, he said he would welcome its creation because it would ensure that the rules are followed, but that “the public makes the rules”. Also positive was the fact that EYDAP would not be supervised by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport but by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

At the same time, the Director General of EYDAP emphasized that with the new operating framework, water supply and accountability in general will improve, because instead of the approximately 170 companies currently present across the country, there will only be 13 large management companies and independent bodies. It will be able to check whether public sector rules are being applied correctly and transparently in the interest of the consumer as well as the shareholders.

Mr. Shahinis also referred to the huge €1.6 billion investment program expected for the next 10 years, which includes sanitation and wastewater treatment projects in East Attica and infrastructure modernization with an ambitious 1,400km pipeline programme, 10% of which have projects. I did.

At the same time, he referred to the goal of obtaining water without a carbon footprint in accordance with the goals of sustainable development with the horizon of 2030. Among the measures taken in the direction of green transformation is the generation of electricity from renewable energy sources that guarantee a double benefit for the company itself, society and the environment.
