What's changing in Google Maps – the little rectangular box on Android

An important change has begun to gradually appear for users of the famous application of the American technology giant. This is a feature that was initially only available to iOS users.

Google Maps Android users are gradually starting to see on their screens, at the top left, a rectangular box containing weather information as well as the Air Quality Index (AQI) in real time.

The data will be updated as you move

The area it covers in the app is very small, and just by tapping on the frame you'll get more weather information, including a 12-hour forecast. Of course, the air quality level will also be displayed if the AQI section is pressed.

Google Weather on…the steering wheel

If you select anything else in the app, the weather box will disappear.

According to 9to5google, the weather data will be updated as you move using data from Google Weather.

The new feature was launched in recent weeks and although it has been a staple for those viewing Maps in the iOS environment.

Blue dot

We remind you that Google Maps has recently received some interesting updates that help control your location data.

The journey… starts with the little blue dot or your car's current location.

Tapping the dot on Google Maps provides shortcuts to save your parking location or share your location with someone you know. The update also adds options for device location and location history, and you can see at a glance whether they're turned on or not with just a few taps. If you choose to enable it, your activity will be stored in the cloud and visible in the app's Timeline feature.
