Election 2023: How do I vote – what if you don’t have an ID
Procedure for that How do I vote? In 2023 elections, there is no difference compared to previous elections. However, first-time voters may find the following information useful.
Voters come to the polling hall individually or in small groups or as specifically determined by the Election Commission, which authenticates their identity and verifies their entry in the electoral roll.
Identification of voters for exercise of right to vote is based on their police identity card or relevant temporary certificate from competent authority or their passport or driving license or personal health book of all insurance funds. Note that any “cut” ID cards will be accepted.
Specifically for passports, it is indicated that an expired Greek passport is also sufficient.
Joint Ministerial Decision No. 4082/2022 (B’ 3982) and accessible through the government portal https://wallet.gov.gr. If for any reason the aforementioned procedure cannot be complied with or if its application causes a delay in the voting process, at the discretion of the head of the election committee, identification of voters based on the data of the previous paragraph.

Polling station separately and not consolidated or with any subsidiary. Identification of military personnel and personnel serving in defense forces is carried out on the basis of their military or official identity cards, as per the above rules.
In order for the above electors to exercise their right to vote in the municipality in which they are registered, They have to deliver to the Election Committee Proof of their service or unit They are not recorded in the reports under Article 27 of the P.T. 26/2012.
After exercising the right to vote and if the elector so requests, A written certificate to exercise the right to vote is issued to him, Signed and sealed by the Chairman of the Election Committee as per Section 6 of Article 83 of the pd. 26/2012. It is to be noted that such printed certificates will be issued to all the polling booths.
When identifying voters, some voters, due to errors or other reasons, may find discrepancies between their information on the electoral roll and their police or service identification cards.
Specifically:
a) Their registration details in the Electoral Roll do not fully match with their police or official identity card details. In this case, voters must present an identity certificate issued by the concerned mayor or other documents that can be obtained and prove their identity.
However, it is at the discretion of the Election Commission to take into account additional evidence that can prove the identity of the voter in order to allow him to exercise his right to vote.
b) Women voters who are registered with their husband’s surname in the voter list are listed with their father’s surname in their police identity card or vice versa.
c) Female voters who are registered with their husband’s surname in the electoral roll, after their divorce, change their police identity card and change their husband’s surname to their surname without amending the electoral roll directory.
In cases B and C above, the real identity of the voters can be verified by comparing the details of the voter list and the police ID, thus requiring no other supporting documents.
However, female voters should be provided with a similar proof document (eg marriage certificate) as it is impossible to verify their identity even by comparing the data.
However, the Electoral Commission is competent to decide whether the voter’s identity is proved by any other element or document (eg gender indication on police ID).
In order to serve citizens during the right to vote, authorities to issue ID cards will operate on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 during the hours set by the document of the Ministry of Citizen Protection.
