Ezekiel the prophet
According to Saint.gr, the prophet Ezekiel lived during the years of Nebuchadnezzar, in the sixth century BC. (according to others in 477 BC). His father was a priest and was called Busi and was taken captive to Babylon after the first capture of Jerusalem in 598 BC.
Ezekiel’s upbringing was very careful within the framework of the strict morals of the patriarchal religion. He was a relentless enemy of all vices and sins and boldly checked proud and arrogant rulers. Ezekiel was very popular with the people, and many Jewish elders even came to him for advice. His prophecies mainly refer to the destruction of Jerusalem and beyond.
Tradition says that Ezekiel was killed by the tribe of Gath because he checked their tendency to idolatry. He was buried in present-day Baghdad, Iraq.
The book of the prophet Ezekiel is divided into three parts: the first part (ch. a’-kd’) contains warnings about the specific destruction of Jerusalem. The second part (ch. ke’-lb’) contains prophecies of condemnation for various heathen nations, and the third part (lg’-mi’) contains prophecies referring to various matters. The third part also includes the prophecy, which refers to the vision of the prophet Ezekiel, which is related to the miraculous revival of bare bones, which will become living people at the command of God (Lz’, 1-14). This prophecy is read in holy shrines during Vespers of Great Saturday, i.e. after the epitaph procession in the evening of Good Friday, and it foretells the resurrection of the dead, which will take place at the second coming of Christ.
Finally, let us mention some words of the prophet who gives the immortal messages of eternal life: “I am all souls… The word of the Lord came to me that the soul that sins, it dies. But the righteous man lives, says the Lord, who has sin and righteousness” (Ezekiel, chapter 1-9) . That is, the Lord spoke to me and said, “Every human life is mine. The sinner must suffer the death penalty. But he that is righteous, and he that keepeth my commandments, and walketh uprightly, shall live forever, saith the Lord.”
