When Black Sabbath was introduced to the world of music, in addition to songs that are now considered classics, they also “presented” a creepy album cover, with a mysterious female figure.
Friday the 13th in 1970. It’s the day the musical genre was born. the heavy metal. Until that day, mankind had not heard anything like this. From that day everything changed. It’s the day Black Sabbath released their self-titled debut album. Scary music, rain, bells, piercing vocals, heavy and uplifting guitars and of course a scary cover.
After the initial shock of the creations of the satanic quartet from Birmingham, Great Britain, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and of course the god-crazed Ozzy Osbourne, everyone started to raving about the album cover and especially with this one. A mysterious female figure adorns it.
according to Reader.gr For many years there has been a horrifying mystery surrounding this cover, and the band themselves have made sure to grow this legend with their mark. Who is this woman? Is she a woman? Is he a real person? Where was the photo taken?
Some said the band’s singer is on the cover, Ozzy Osbourne Dressed as a woman, on one of his many ill-fated trips after taking psychotropic drugs. Some “discreet” claim the female character is the wife of the band’s drummer, Bill Ward. They said much more than that. Some said she was holding a black cat on her lap, others said she was carrying an inverted cross.
Finally, after many years all these questions have been answered. The name of the mysterious woman Louisa Livingston And at that time she was a model! The photographer was the then young Keith Macmillan, who, in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine about the Black Sabbath cover shoot, said:Louisa was wearing a black cloak with nothing underneath. First, we tried to get more revealing images. But we soon realized that none of this worked. Any attempt at sex would spoil the ominous atmosphere of the record. Louisa was a great role model. She understood exactly what I was telling her.”
Louisa herself said: “I remember it was so cold when we took the pictures! I had to get up at four in the morning. I found Keith experimenting by throwing dry ice in the water. When he saw it wasn’t working he decided to use a smoke machine. He told me the picture was about Saturday.” Black, but I don’t think he told me that at the time.” After this photo shoot, he never appeared in the spotlight again. A fact that has also been used to construct the Black Sabbath myth.
The house in front of which the infamous photo was taken is actually a historic watermill (Mapledurham Watermill) located on the River Thames in Oxfordshire, England. It was built around the year 1400 and was in use until the outbreak of World War II.
