However, Microsoft went ahead and earlier last month released several 2023 Update features, including a new Windows Copilot, AI updates for Paint, the Snipping Tool and Photos, RGB lighting support, and an updated File Explorer, but… The main change in the Windows 11 2023 Update is the removal of the Microsoft Teams integration called Chat. The free version of Microsoft Teams is now attached to your taskbar, allowing conversations, calls, and meetings to take place with just a click.
“Chat is now Microsoft Teams (free version) and is pinned to the taskbar by default,” explains John Cable, a senior executive at Microsoft and Windows. “When you click to launch Microsoft Teams, you’ll discover a mini communications experience that makes it possible to chat, connect, meet, and create a space for teams to communicate where to meet, how to organize, and how to share ideas. All with just one or two clicks.”
Native Microsoft Teams integration is deeply integrated into the operating system and is enabled in the taskbar by default. Chat has always been an elusive feature in Windows 11 and limited to consumers only.
The 2023 update also includes changes to application management. System apps now have a “System” tab and a separate section in Settings. Microsoft appears to be preparing to allow the removal of these system apps in the future, perhaps in the next major version of Windows scheduled for release in 2024.
