The Xbox Remix Special Edition Wireless Controller uses recycled and milled plastic parts from old consoles, plastic car headlight covers, and recycled CDs (among other materials) to give each accessory a unique look. Although the console does not offer any special or unique functions, it allows players who want to buy a console made of recycled plastic, which indicates that they prefer products made with environmentally friendly processes.
A third of every gamepad is made from recycled resin and scrap, and Microsoft says the recycled resin comes from “car headlight housings, plastic water bottles and CDs.” The console is also made using various parts from old Xbox One consoles that are recycled using a chip that has the same characteristics in terms of performance and durability (a chip is a raw material resulting from the processing of unused waste or production products that are converted into recycled used plastic With new plastics to make new products).
Microsoft describes the combination of recycled resin and polished plastic as a unique style, with “slight tonal variations, slightly different swirl shapes, and different face markings and textures” giving each Remix Special Edition controller a “unique character and feel”.
Although it is difficult to confirm the above claim from the images released by Microsoft, it seems that each console will differ, if only slightly in appearance and touch feel, from the rest. Microsoft describes the outside of the controller’s grip as a “topographic texture pattern,” saying it’s “an ode to the dynamic landscape of the Earth.” The green colors on the front buttons, triggers, D-pad, and Xbox button were inspired by lichen, a complex organism found in the Pacific Northwest.
It wouldn’t make sense to buy a console that was made environmentally responsible and has an environmental impact to put disposable AA batteries in it that end up in landfills. Precisely for this reason, Microsoft offers with the console a rechargeable battery with USB-C cable (Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack), an accessory that costs € 22.90 on its own. The Remix Special Edition for Xbox Wireless Controller from Microsoft costs €89.99.
