Mix Fold 2 has many improvements over the original Mi Mix Fold It was released last year which exceeded the projection of the Mi brand. The Fold 2 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, with 12GB of RAM and several storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB. It also features an improved hinge and comes in either gold or black.
As a foldable device, you’ll get an external 6.56-inch (2520 x 1080) OLED display with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio and an 8.02-inch LTPO 2.0 (2160 x 1914) internal display, both of which are slightly larger than Samsung’s. Xiaomi announcement comes next Samsung released two foldable devices on its own Wednesday – Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 This will create some much-needed competition in the foldable market if the Mix Fold 2 is shipped to markets outside of China. One of the ways Xiaomi is trying to make headway over its Korean rivals is by claiming that the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is “the world’s thinnest foldable phone”. It measures just 5.4mm in size, which makes it remove nearly 15 percent of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 6.3mm thickness.
It’s not all competition sunshine and hardware scaling, though Samsung’s flagship offering includes a handy Flex mode (Samsung’s terminology for apps that automatically redirect to fit the folded screen) and IPX8 water resistance, two features the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 lacks. Xiaomi’s 4,500mAh battery is still bigger than the 4,400mAh battery inside Samsung’s Z Fold 4. The Mix Fold 2 also supports 67W wired fast charging, with the brand claiming that a full charge can be achieved in 40 minutes, while the Z Fold 4 only supports up to 25W fast charging compared to Samsung claiming that the phone can achieve up to 50 percent of its battery capacity in 30 minutes.
For now, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is only available for purchase in China, with no announcements regarding when the phone might make its way to other markets. The 256GB base model is priced at CNY 8,999 (about $1,300) which greatly reduces 13,999 CNY (more than 2,000 USD) Samsung is ordering a 256GB version of the Z Fold 4 in the country.
If these prices hold for an international launch, then Samsung can finally Facing some serious competition in the foldsespecially in price-sensitive markets like India where Xiaomi is already number one in terms of market share and Samsung has just slipped to fourth place, According to IDC.
