Zelensky: change of line – “I don’t think Putin will use nuclear weapons”

Font changes Volodymyr Zelensky Regarding the risks of use nuclear From Russia. The Ukrainian president said he did not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin would decide to use nuclear weapons.

Zelensky made the remarks while speaking via video link at the New York Times “DealBook” Summit in New York.

The statement came as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that it is necessary to avoid any kind of military confrontation between the nuclear powers, even if it involves the use of “only” conventional weapons, the Tass news agency reported.

Lavrov also said that the West was pressuring Ukraine to continue the war against Russia.

Escalation can get out of control.

“We must avoid any military conflict between the nuclear powers, even with the use of conventional weapons. An escalation can get out of control,” he added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a series of thinly veiled nuclear threats during the war in Ukraine, but several senior officials have repeatedly denied that Moscow plans to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine and accused the West of escalating tensions.

Western countries, led by the United States, have given Ukraine an unprecedented package of military support to help it fight Russia. Moscow said this made NATO part of the conflict, though both sides stressed the importance of avoiding direct confrontation.

Ukraine is not a member of NATO, but it seeks to join the alliance, which is still a long way off. Russia says Ukraine’s aspirations to join NATO and the alliance’s eastward expansion after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 were among the reasons for its Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine.
